The Perfect Storm
My holiday weekend did not turn out the way I expected!! I thought we were going to Des Moines for a few days, go to a toddler's birthday party, and come home to clean. Not so much. Thursday I find out my grandmother is moving to the nursing home and we have to clean her apartment out right away. So we went over early and helped with that. I did pretty well sorting and organizing and directing. I did not however take good care of myself, not drinking enough, and I missed a few doses of pills. Sunday afternoon I would pay for it! I started getting dizzy and weak Saturday evening. About an hour before the birthday party Sunday it turned into blackout zaps and disorientation. My husband took me straight to the ER. I got fluids and a script for antibiotics because the found a small patch of cellulitis on my belly. I felt much better but by the time I got home I was a little dizzy again. Monday I felt even worse. The infection had become painful and red, the dizziness had turned into what I later learned were head zaps every 30 seconds, and every joint, muscle, and inch of my skin hurt. I went back to the hospital, this time in Omaha where they know my history. All they could do was give me pain meds, fluids and more antibiotics. They did nothing for the head zaps which was the worst part. I was like time froze for a second while I was shocked in the head. By the end it was every 30 seconds or so. I later found out I had missed 4 days of my Paxil (anti-depressant) and head zaps are a known side effect of withdrawal. 48 hours of sleep/rest and taking my meds right and I feel human again. I think we picked up a bug in the hospital though because we have fevers, aches, and sinus symptoms. One of the biggest reasons grandma moved to the nursing home is because she couldn't take her medicine correctly, maybe I need to go too.
